HOME MAINTENANCE SEASONAL (FALL AND WINTER) CHECKLIST
OK, I live in South Florida, so putting away hurricane shutters is about as
close as I come to fall and winter home maintenance. But I did grow up and spend much of my
life in the upper Midwest. So I know how important it is to get the season maintenance complete
so there is plenty of time to have some fun ice fishing, snowmobiling and sledding during the
long winters.
Plumbing:
Outdoor water systems winterized including sprinkler system
Remove hoses from hose bibs and store indoors
Protect faucets from freezing
Interior:
Reverse ceiling fans to blow hot air down
Fireplace flue checked and cleaned
Humidifier checked and serviced
Check smoke alarms (replace batteries) and fire extinguishers (pressure)
Exterior:
Remove window screens or store
Install storm windows
Check weather stripping on windows and doors
Prepare lawn for winter (rake leaves, fertilize and prune shrubs)
Caulk exterior joints around windows and doors
Clean and store outdoor tools
Store outside furniture
Clean out flower & planting beds and vegetable gardens and plant spring bulbs
